Beef broth condensed Soup - 2 cans [Misc.]
Salad Oil - 2 T [Misc.]
Butter - 1 T [Dairy]
Onions, sliced - 4 cups [Vegetable]
Sugar - 1/4 tsp. [Dry Goods / Spices]
Fread bread, toasted - 6 slices [Starch/Grain]
Gruyere or Swiss , shredded - 2 cups [Dairy]
Parmesan cheese, grated - 1/4 cup [Dairy]
Water - 2 soup cans [Misc.]
Dry white wine (optional) - 1/2 cup [Misc.]
Recipe Directions:
In covered 3 qt saucepan heat oil and butter, add onions and cook over low heat for 15 minutes or until tender. Stir occasionally. Stir in sugar and cook over meduim heat for 30 minutes, stirrring frequently. Add soup and water. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 25 minutes (add optional wine). Ladle soup into 6 12oz oven proof bowls. Place bowls on jelly roll pan. Place bread in each bowl and top with cheeses. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until top is browned.
